I'm from Buckinghamshire, England, where I have lived all my life. Although my permanent home is only about 6 miles from my birthplace, I have loved to travel ever since my first trip abroad back in 1984, when I finally persuaded my parents to be a bit more adventurous with the family holiday than East Anglia again. Our first trip was a 'tour and stay' coach trip to the Wolfgangsee in Austria . En route, we had brief stops in Brussels, Heidelberg and the Rhine Gorge. Since then, I have been to many places (though I have only crossed the Atlantic once). I tend to choose places to visit on the basis of two criteria:
a) I find them interesting or intriguing: this has taken me to places such as Albania, Turkmenistan and North Korea.
b) The food is good: this is why I have been to Sicily four times
So far I have not been to the United States.
On other thing you need to know - my husband went through a phase of wanting to go to places with Wombles named after them. This was the reason for my visits to the Orinoco Delta, Tobermory, Cholet, Bulgaria (2nd visit), Alderney, Tomsk and Japan (for the Bungo channel).

Closer to home, I am currently working on the Bradt Guide to the Chilterns and Thames Valley along with my husband, Neil.
